TOUR ITINERARY
This tour is a collaboration with our friend Aini, that we are supporting since her beginnings. Aini is an amazing and lovely woman entrepreneur who is making eco-friendly and organic beauty products with ingredients harvested directly from her amazing organic garden, ensuring freshness & naturalness. She is committed to produce beauty products without nasties in order to offer natural and plastic-free alternatives to local people. Her mission definitely resonates with ours so we couldn't help supporting her business! For each trek booked with us, we are using a part of our profits to order some of her organic soaps to give to our guests to make sure they're not harming the environment with chemical soaps while trekking through the jungle and taking shower in the river. We are also ordering several of her products for our guesthouse since the launch of her business. We aim to provide plastic-free jungle treks and reduce the overall plastic use, these soaps were the perfect match to make reduce the plastic packaging waste of guests in Bukit Lawang. We also have a small eco shop at our eco lodge where you can buy some of Aini's amazing organic products!
After breakfast around 9:00 am you will walk until the entrance of Bukit Lawang where a traditional beck (tuk tuk) will wait for you. The tuk tuk will take you to the beautiful place of the workshop located in the paddy rice fields. Once arrived at Aini's place, you will have the chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the paddy rice fields with the Gunung Leuser National Park on the background.
Aini or her sister Sarah will give you a small house tour and you will immediately be amazed by the beautiful organic garden. You will be welcomed with a fresh herbal drink from the garden! Quenched, you are ready to explore the amazing organic garden of Aini, who is putting a lot of efforts into it and who is committed to not use any chemicals! You will learn more about Indonesian plants and flowers growing in there but also about herbal properties and uses. You will use dried flowers and plants from her garden to make your natural soap.
Let's begin your soap making workshop! Aini or her sister Sarah will share her her secrets for creating natural soaps with the freshly harvested ingredients from her garden. She will show you step by step how to make natural soap using different tools, natural coloring and natural scents... You will create your own soaps using the hot and process methods (This hot process doesn't require any lye/caustic soda and is 100% safe. You will use coconut glycerin, aloe verra, natural coloring and scents from organic plants). You're joining the tour with your children? They will love this activity as they will put a fun little toy inside their soap! A fun way to raise awareness among children about the importance of washing your hands! The process is really easy and children will easily be able to follow the different steps of soap making with Aini's assistance. At the end of this workshop you will of course take home your own hand-crafted natural soap! The perfect way to have a little piece of Sumatra with you while traveling or at home!
If you'd like, you can have a traditional lunch together at Aini's place at the end of the workshop (available as an add-on for +65,000 IDR / person as it will include lunches for Aini & her assistant of course). Enjoy a yummy nasi campur with a view on the rice fields ! Nasi campur is one of the most popular Indonesian dishes. It consists of a bunch of white rice and a variety of side dishes, ingredients, and condiments. It is a kind of buffet where everyone can freely choose between different kind of meat, fish, egg, vegetables and sauce...
If you'd like to see the other natural beauty products Aini is making, she will show you her shop before leaving! Try the several delightful scents of her solid soaps, You can buy some of her amazing products directly there. Delight your senses with the enchanting scents of her solid soaps, liquid soaps, body butter or coconut oil...
Then a tuk tuk will come to pick you up and bring you back at the entrance of Bukit Lawang. You will then need to walk for 15 minutes on the path along the river to go back to our guesthouse (you will already know the way).
